Hi. You’ve reached the website of Alissa Schulman (the writer; not the plastic surgeon in Florida). I’m not online right now.

If you loosely know me and are just wondering what I’ve been up to:

  1. I live in Brooklyn now. Honestly can’t believe I’m here, in both a dreamy and ‘what is this place’ sense. I have a running list in my mind of all of the things I miss in LA. Let me know if you’re going there and want any recommendations (mostly food and maybe a couple of trails).
  2. I work in ed tech now. I didn’t really know what that was until I started this job—tech nomenclature is not something I was familiar with. Ed tech is “education technology.” People at the company work on an online platform that houses full courses, specializations, professional certificates, and degrees from top universities and industry leaders. I work in marketing. The people who work there are good-hearted and genuinely care, which is very nice and easy to root for. The best products are the professional certs, in my personal opinion.
  3. If you’re trying to figure out what’s going on with my personal life, I’m not putting that on the internet at this time. But if you want to gossip about our lives and share personal anecdotes in a somewhat salacious, but always fair way, please let me know.

You know how to reach me for more. And if you don’t:

Restaurants I miss in LA that you should go to if you’re there

  1. Osteria la Buca—Short rib ravioli, cacio pepe, the classic pizza (margherita), crispy brussels sprouts, and the Buca Farm lettuces (lol). But really, anything you order will be good.
  2. Tower Bar—Classic LA elegance. Transports you to a different period of Hollywood glamour. I love ordering a dirty vodka martini on the terrace at night and looking out at the view, but I always saw the most celebrities inside at night. (Or outside during lunch.)
  3. Chateau Marmont—It’s very private and they’re very strict about reservations, so you’ll pretty much see a celebrity here any time you go. Feels exclusive. Get fries and a nice glass of wine. Eton mess isn’t my typical dessert, but surprisingly fun to eat here. This restaurant is chic and the hotel is absolutely steeped in Hollywood history. Someone cool once told me this very endearing tidbit: Jason Segel used to live near Chateau and sometimes he’d pop over to their kitchen and borrow an egg or whatever various kitchen ingredient. I’ve never verified this story, but it’s so cute that I don’t know if I want to.
  4. Connie & Ted’s—I guess they don’t do brunch or happy hour anymore, which were two of my favorite things. But still good for other meals and bites. I assume they still have Bloody Marys and oyster shooters?

There are more!
